Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need an air preparation unit?
A portable diesel compressor will take ambient air and compress it for industrial use. This air is filtered, compressed, then put through an air/oil separator to remove any suspended oil particles, and deliver to an outlet.

The air from a general air compressor is HOT and WET – diesel compressor air will have temperatures of above 100°F, and will pull in humidity with it. These conditions would quickly destroy standard air hoses and diaphragms in dry ice blasting equipment.

An air preparation unit is designed to take the hot, wet, and oily air from a compressor and prepare it for a dry ice blasting unit. The air temperature is brought down to just above ambient and then passed through a water filter/separator. This air is then sent to the air supply hose.

A small amount of oil and moisture will remain in these conditions, but the amount is inconsequential for most blasting operations. If you need more oil or water removed, attachments are available for our air preparation units to accommodate.
